Privacy in Plain English
Before the legal details, here's what actually matters:
No Data Sales
Your information is never sold to third parties. Period.
Minimal Tracking
We use a Meta Pixel to measure ad effectiveness and Microsoft Clarity to improve your experience—no data is sold or shared for profiling.
Parent-Controlled
Parents have exclusive access to their students' data. Students only interact with content you designate.
Auto-Delete Policy
Inactive data is automatically deleted after 12 months. Request immediate deletion anytime.
Our Commitment to Your Privacy
"We collect the bare minimum data needed to run Upwardly Math—nothing more. This policy explains exactly what that means. No corporate doublespeak—just honest answers."
This Privacy Policy applies to parents and guardians who use Upwardly Math to support their children's math learning. If you have questions after reading this, please reach out directly—I respond personally.

How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide access to Upwardly Math's learning features
- Track your student's progress within the app
- Send essential account emails (receipts, subscription updates)
- Improve app functionality based on how families actually use it
- Respond to your support requests
That's it. We don't use your data to advertise third-party products, and we don't build profiles to sell. We do use limited tracking to help find other parents who could enjoy our platform—and to make the experience better for you.
How We Protect Your Information

Who We Share Information With
We DO NOT:
- ✗ Sell your data to third parties
- ✗ Share personal data with advertisers for profiling
- ✗ Use data for marketing outside our service
- ✗ Let third parties access your student's learning data for advertising, profiling, or sale
We DO Share With:
- •Lemon Squeezy — our payment processor (they handle billing only)
- •Google Cloud — our secure hosting infrastructure
- •A third-party AI provider — only if you enable the Quill of Reasoning: the math question and your student's sketchpad work are sent to confirm genuine effort and award bonus XP. No names or account details are included.
- •Law enforcement — only when legally required (subpoenas, court orders)
Children's Privacy
Upwardly Math is designed with children's safety in mind. Parents are in control at all times.
- Upwardly Math is designed for parents. Children use the app under parental supervision, but all accounts are parent-owned and parent-controlled.
- Children put in very little—and never personal details. A student signs in with a simple login the parent creates and controls (children can't register themselves), and their only inputs are answers to math questions and pre-set feedback options—no free text. We don't run third-party analytics or session-recording on student sessions—when a student is signed in, tools like Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity do not load. Beyond the basic security and operational data any website needs to function, the only thing we keep from a student's use is their learning progress, which lives in your parent-controlled account.
- The optional Quill of Reasoning uses AI to check shown work. If you enable it, your student's sketchpad work for a question is sent to a third-party AI provider to confirm a genuine attempt and award bonus XP—only the question and the drawing are sent, never their name or any identifying details. It stays off unless you turn it on, and you can disable it (or the whole XP Shop) anytime.
- Student names and progress data are parent-provided and parent-controlled. You can use nicknames or aliases—we don't verify student names.
- No social features. Students cannot interact with other users, share information, or send free-form messages. If a student flags a problem with a study guide, it's routed to you and our team using pre-set options, and our response goes to you—the parent—not the student.
- How we obtain a parent's consent. Only a parent or guardian can create an account, and we obtain verifiable parental consent through the paid signup—a credit or debit card transaction processed by our payment provider, with a receipt sent for each charge—which is a recognized method of verifying a parent under COPPA. Children cannot register or enter payment themselves.
- We never sell children's data or use it for advertising. We do not sell your child's personal information or share it for targeted advertising. Apart from the optional Quill of Reasoning described above—which you turn on yourself, and which sends only the math question and sketch, never their name or account details—your child's work is not shared with outside companies.
- You stay in control. At any time you can review your child's information, ask us to delete it, or refuse to allow any further collection or use of it—see "Your Rights and Choices" below for how.
Who Operates Upwardly Math
Upwardly Math is operated by Wilkinson Learning Works, LLC—the operator responsible for personal information collected from children through the service. To review or delete your child's information, withdraw your consent, or ask about this policy, contact us:

Your Rights and Choices
You Can:
- ✓Access your data — view your account information anytime
- ✓Update or correct information — edit your profile and student details
- ✓Delete your account — request complete removal of all your data
- ✓Export progress data — get a copy of your student's learning history

To exercise any of these rights: Email us at rudy@upwardlyapp.com or use our contact form. We respond to all requests within 30 days.
How Long We Keep Your Data
We keep your family's and your child's information only as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it—running your account and giving you your student's progress reports—and no longer. We don't keep children's information indefinitely, and you can request deletion at any time.
Active Accounts
Data retained while your subscription is active
After Cancellation
Data kept for 12 months so you can easily return and your students can resume their learning. You can request immediate deletion anytime.
Cookies and Tracking
We use only essential cookies required for the app to function:
- Authentication cookies — keep you logged in
- Session cookies — remember your preferences during a session
We use Google Analytics for basic usage statistics and a Meta Pixel to measure the effectiveness of our Facebook ads. The Meta Pixel tracks conversion events (such as sign-ups) so we can reach more families like yours—it does not collect personal information about your children or sell your data.
We also use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors interact with our site. Clarity records anonymized session data—such as clicks, scrolls, and mouse movements—and generates heatmaps so we can identify confusing layouts or broken experiences and fix them. Clarity automatically masks sensitive input fields and does not capture passwords or payment information.
Third-Party Services We Use
Lemon Squeezy (Payment Processing)
Handles all payment processing as our merchant of record. They collect payment information necessary to process your subscription.
View Lemon Squeezy Privacy Policy →Google Cloud (Hosting & Database)
Provides secure cloud infrastructure for hosting the app and storing data. Data is stored in the United States with enterprise-grade security.
View Google Cloud Privacy Policy →Meta Pixel (Ad Measurement)
We use a Meta (Facebook) Pixel to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. It tracks when visitors sign up after seeing one of our ads, helping us reach more parents who may benefit from Upwardly Math. No children's data is shared with Meta.
View Meta Privacy Policy →Microsoft Clarity (User Experience Analytics)
We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors interact with our website. Clarity captures anonymized session replays and heatmaps—showing where users click, scroll, and navigate—so we can identify and fix confusing or broken experiences. Sensitive fields are automatically masked, and no passwords or payment details are ever recorded.
View Microsoft Privacy Statement →AI Work Evaluation (Quill of Reasoning)
The Quill of Reasoning is an optional XP Shop item. When a parent enables it and a student uses it, the math question and the student's sketchpad work are sent to a third-party AI provider to confirm the work is a genuine attempt and award bonus XP. Only the question and the drawing are sent—never your student's name, login, or any other identifying information. The AI provider may change over time, and you can switch the Quill, or the entire XP Shop, off at any time from your dashboard.
